As part of a multi-stop tour of the Big Island Coppertone and I were able to spend a bit of time at Kilauea Crater to see one of the more active volcanos in the world. After bubbling lava for decades we schedule our trip a few months after it decided to go dormant. Great timing! Still, there were great views to be had not terribly far from our stopping point. Wish we had more time to hike here.
No more than a couple of weeks after we were at Kilauea we heard reports of a visitor who hopped over the guard railing to get closer to the crater rim and fell in. He had to evacuated out and may face charges.
