Coppertone and I decided to drive to Ragle Ranch after seeing blackberry bushes with some ripe fruit at Crane Creek Regional Park.  On our previous outing here we saw some very large thickets of blackberries and knew there'd be some nice picking here.  It did not disappoint.

Hiking-wise we ended up doing a short look through Thistle Trail where some of the largest concentrations of blackberry bushes could be found.  At one point a walker came through asking about the expected distance to get back to the trailhead and after we told him our estimate he asked whether or not bears would be a problem in the park!  We assured him he was safe.

Coppertone and I set out on another Meetup.com group to hike just about every trail in this park.

It's an easy park to hike with mostly flat terrain and trails that are well worn and mostly obvious.  Some trail signs on the way help clear up any confusion.  Being mostly flat, there were only a couple of views off into the distance.

The trails here are in some cases practically enveloped in blackberry bushes, so the longest trail's name is quite apt.

We spotted a few hawks flying around looking for prey and a good number of turkey vultures looking for something that had already expired.

The vast majority of park visitors were all concentrated near the park entrance as they played or watched people play in soccer matches.

The best part of the visit was good conversation with the other group members, none of whom we'd met before.

Day Hikes Around Sonoma County is a collection of 125 of the county's best day hikes, providing access to both well-known and out-of-the-way greenspace. Hikes are found along the Pacific Ocean, across the coastal ridges, into wide valleys, and through thick forests. A third of the hikes are located along the coastline, accessed by Highway 1, which connects the coastal towns as it snakes along the oceanfront cliffs and bluffs. Many coastal access points that are not easily recognized from Highway 1 are clearly described. The remaining hikes explore the inland mountains, hillsides, and valleys through numerous state parks, regional parks, and undeveloped land. Highlights include fog-shrouded redwood forests, creekside canyons, wildlife sanctuaries, lakes, tidal bays, wave-pounded coastline, and sweeping panoramic views. A wide range of hikes accommodates amateur to avid hikers, from beachfront strolls to canyon treks. Straight-forward directions and clear maps accompany all hikes. A thorough index includes cities, trails, and points of interest.
