The trail is described in detail in various books and websites related to Glacier National Park; this report deals with my impression of the trail.
This trail is very easy to do and can offer outstanding views of St Mary Lake and the surrounding mountains - unfortunately, there was a lot of smoke from wildfires in the western portion of the park. The trail starts at the parking area which is relatively small and can fill quickly but when we arrived, we easily found a parking spot - this trail was the only one we visited that was not packed with people! Metal trail signs point the way to the Sun Point Viewpoint which is a little more than a quarter mile away. The Viewpoint is large and has a metal information sign which points to, and gives the names of, various mountains you can see. I was able to get a few pictures and even with the smoke, I think they look good!
Although the hike itself is only a little more than a half mile round trip, I recommend this hike to the Viewpoint; relax and listen to the wind going through the trees as you enjoy the views.
