Climbing over rocks like a kid

Looking out
A view from one rock outcropping to another. The couple in the distance had some difficulty talking their daughter down from their perch. Scrambling down is sometimes harder because one can't see all of the toeholds used on the way up.

Comments:

Coppertone and I ended up doing as much climbing over rocks as we did hiking here.  The number and variety of boulders to crawl over is amazing.  The soft sandstone provides fairly good traction and over the years secure foot and handholds have been worn into the rock.

From the Rock City parking area we started walking down trails at random and stopping at any rock outcropping that looked interesting.  The track file included here had to be heavily edited to get rid of all of the zig zags as we went from one rock to another.

After getting our fill of scrambling over rocks we drove to the summit to have a look at the view from atop Mount Diablo.
