Looking for a Mate
This Curved Billed Thrasher was singing loudly and for a long time. Winter appears to be over and the mating season has begun!

Hike 1   Playground parking lot > Roadrunner Loop > Playground parking lot    3.2 miles

Hike 2 -

Out      Playground parking lot > Chaparral > Red Dam Loop > Chaparral > Winding Snake > Burkett park     4.0 miles

Return  Burkett park > Suzanne's Trail > Lanky Lackey > Nature Loop > Tasajilla Flats > Playground parking lot    3.9 miles

Temps in the mid-40's to start and 67 at end, sunny, steady 10 mph breeze.

Did two separate hikes with the Playground parking lot being the common point of departure and return.

The Roadrunner Trail (Loop) is a fairly wide and level dirt trail that is designated for hikers only.  I've worked diligently to clean it of trash and yet, I still manage to find some!  Fortunately the vast majority is "old trash" such as bottles and cans.  I find it interesting that each time I do a trash pick-up I swear I get it all, only to find on my next hike, I find enough to fill another bag or two!   There were some birds looking for mates (see attached photo) but otherwise, not much going on.

The second hike was from Playground to Burkett park - done many times in the past.  Trails are in very good condition and with a recent, light rain, some of the burnt wood smell has begun to dissipate AND there are green shoots coming up from the cactus and new grass in the burned areas.   Agarita bushes continue to bloom and release their scents which is very pleasant!
