Park Mid-section - Burkett Park to Cougar Overlook and Back

Breakfast on the Go
This box turtle was eating a cicada when I saw him. At first, he stopped but when he saw I was no threat, quickly swallowed his meal and slowly continued on his way.

Leg 1 -  Burkett park > WS to LL Connector > Roller Coaster > West Potts Creek > Potts Creek > Turkey Creek > 5 Points Junction > River Bend (N) > service road (NNW) > Cougar Overlook      5.1 miles

Leg 2 -  Cougar Overlook > Trailhead to Trailhead (S) > Burkett Trail > Burkett Park   3.0 miles

Temp started at 70, ended at 76.  Overcast, light northerly breeze at 5mph.

Easy hike along familiar trails.  Not many birds out but there were numerous cottontail rabbits as well as two pair of Jack Rabbits.  Also saw a ring collared snake, quite a few brown millipedes as well as a box turtle who was eating a cicada (photo attached).  Unfortunately, the wildflowers and cactus blossoms are gone for the most part.  There are a few wildflowers in bloom as indivduals here and there, not in groups or clusters.

NOTES
