South Shore - Playground Parking Area to Isabel Harte Loop

A few Javelinas
Saw this small family of javelinas at the beginning of the Nature Trail. Their eyesight may be poor but when the wind took our scent to them, they were off like a bullet!

Leg 1 -  Playground parking area > Chaparral > Talley Valley > Horny Toad > Nature Trail > park road (NE) > Isabel Harte Day Use Area    3.0 miles

Leg 2 -  isabel Harte Day Use Area > Chaparral > Playground parking area      1.3 miles

Temp started at 29, ended at 50. Sunny with a few clouds, steady wind with gusts from the SW.

A short and easy hike along dry and easy to see trails.  Saw a small family of javelinas (photo attached), a few deer who survived last weeks hunt and a Loggerhead Shrike.  Cold and wind kept most of the animals and birds away.  A short but enjoyable walk in the park.

NOTES -

Water, shade, info kiosk, toilets and a bicycle repair station available at the Playground parking area.

Water and a dry toilet available at Isabel Harte.  Shade available at various campsites.
