Hike & Bike Trail
Blue River Trail - 5/25/2026  [View Log Page]
Rating: 1star Difficulty: 1point5stars Solitude: 1star
Distance: 9.01 Miles Duration: 3 hours, 1 minute

I walked some miles on the hike & bike trail along the Blue River near Silverthorne.  Paved the whole way and well-marked with direction signs.

Summit Of Grays Peak
Grays and Torreys Peaks Trailhead - 5/23/2026  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3point5stars Difficulty: 4stars Solitude: 2stars
Distance: 6.81 Miles Duration: 5 hours, 57 minutes

My plan was to summit Grays Peak and then traverse over to summit Torreys Peak.  To my dismay, the entire trail and the mountains were covered in snow, so it was more strenuous than I expected.  Even though Grays was a Class1 peak, it was covered in 2+ ft of snow so it was brutally hard to get to the top, often postholing along the way in chilling 20 mph winds.  I managed to slog up to the top of Grays, but I was getting Elvis Legs and bonking big time.  I felt the effects of altitude the last 300 ft going up the final push that was ~45 degrees in slope, getting tunnel vision and becoming dizzy due to overexertion and not enough oxygen.  Luckily, I was able to recognize the symptoms and work through it.  By the time I got to the top of Grays, I was exhausted  and didn't have enough gas in my tank to traverse over and summit Torreys Peak as well.  I will have to save that 14er for another day when the snow has melted away.

Bike Path
Dillon Reservoir Loop - 5/22/2026  [View Log Page]
Rating: 1star Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 1star
Distance: 7.20 Miles Duration: 2 hours, 31 minutes

I walked along the Rec Path that loops around Dillon Reservoir.  To my chagrin, the route I planned to take was closed due to road construction so I had to turn around and head in the opposite irection.  I walked to the town of Frisco and back to my car.

Summit Hike
Mt Sherman - 5/21/2026  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 3point5stars Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 4.99 Miles Duration: 4 hours, 25 minutes

This was a hike to the top of Mt. Sherman, a 14er, and back.  2100 ft of elevation gain so a lot of cardio.  There were some patches of snow I had to hike through, but the snow was firmly packed so I didn't need microspikes.  The rocks on the ridge up were frosted and slippery so trekking poles helped provide balance.  Sherman is a Class 1 walk-up, but still challenging since you start at ~12000 ft and then are heavy breathing in the thin air to the top.  Views from the top were nice.

Frontal Assault
Bristol Head Peak - 5/17/2026  [View Log Page]
Rating: 1star Difficulty: 4point5stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 4.61 Miles Duration: 4 hours, 44 minutes

This is not a hiking trail, but a cross country hike.  My goal was to summit Bristol Head Peak, but I failed.  After the first mile and a quarter, I entered into the forest where the aspen growth was thick and there were a thousand blow downs of spruce.  This made for an extremely slow pace trying to navigate through this obstacle course.  At about 2.5 miles, I was approaching the point where I would ascend up on top of the ridge to traverse to the top.  I opted to turn around because I was tired, I still had 2 miles to get to the top, and I was running late on time to do the entire hike.  In the future, I will need to be in better shape and get an earlier start.
