This was my longest hike yet, and my second solo. I started at the eastern trailhead, and found the trail to be very well marked. The hardest portion for me was from that trailhead to the Reza farmhouse and spring. This trip has inspired me to pursue ultralight backpacking, as a heavy pack made clambering over rocks sometimes difficult. Prepare well, get plenty of rest, and have a great time!

On every hike there has been an abundance of flowering trees and plants. Each time there is something different over period of a couple of weeks.

2 units in same area. Bridge City, Texas. About 2 miles apart across marsh or 6 miles by road. Old River Unit is not much more that a parking area with a short observation deck with a view of marsh and the Veterans Memorial & Rainbow Bridges. The Nelda Stark Unit is much more of a walk on a seldom traveled road on a levee across the marsh. Lots of interesting plants. Hoped to see alligators, but as it was getting dark when I arrived they were probably already laying low. The plantlife is abundent at both areas. See pictures.
