Return to San Angelo State Park
Don't know what kind of butterfly this is but it made for a nice picture! (Photo by

Commonly seen in the past, rarely seen in the present - the Cottontail Rabbit. (Photo by

Rain from the day before and a cold front this morning, helped produce mist above the Reservoir. (Photo by

The Scissortail seemed content to listen to the male Pyrrhuloxia sing for a mate. (Photo by

These Toms were strutting their stuff but I saw no hens - I guess they were just practicing their moves. (Photo by

I've been informed bees do this when they move to a new hive. These were seen on a mesquite tree a few feet from the trail I hiked on. (Photo by

Found these three juvenile raccoons, huddled together and very scared, in an empty park dumpster. Put a big branch in and went on my hike since I couldn't coax them out. When I finished my hike, I was happy to discover they had vacated. (Photo by

I wouldn't be surprised if a nest appears in this tree sometime in the near future. (Photo by

Interesting scene of airplane contrails and no upper winds. (Photo by

As can be seen at the North Scenic Loop, there is water in the North Concho River which feeds into the reservoir. Also note the abundance of green algae in the water - not a good thing! (Photo by

Almost all of the flowers I saw today were yellow. Can't wait to see the cactus in bloom as well! (Photo by

It was a very nice day at the park! (Photo by

The only agarita bush in bloom in the whole park -VERY early in my opinion. (Photo by

There used to be a fairly large colony of Robins who stayed year round near Shady Trail. They all disappeared a few years ago but today, I spotted five Robins; perhaps they'll return and establish a new colony. (Photo by

I can't tell what kind of sparrow this is but he watched me take his picture then he jumped back in the brush and disappeared. (Photo by

Not the best photo but it is a Crested Caracara. (Photo by

A composite photo of an American Kestrel spotted today. He was flying away from me as I hiked. (Photo by

Looking North by Northwest from Bell's Cross on top of the Big Hill. As can be seen, there isn't much color this time of year. (Photo by

Been awhile since I've seen a Bluebird at the park. This was one of two that were chittering in the tree as I approached. I got the picture then they took off. (Photo by

Although it is Fall, the vegetation is still mostly green - of course, there are always a few exceptions. (Photo by

A few Monarchs are around but the majority have already migrated; LOTS of other butterflies are still in the park! (Photo by

This view of the North Concho River is on the North Scenic Loop. Normally, there is a small pond at the bottom of the drop-off. Instead, the water level is much higher; a welcome abundance as it flows to O.C. Fisher Lake. (Photo by

Watched a "swirl" of these gulls as they circled above O.C. Fisher Reservoir (at 8% capacity). Not much water in the lake but enough for the gulls to make a the park a rest stop on their way south. (Photo by

Raining steadily when I arrived at Cougar Lookout. I noticed a Turkey Vulture and Loggerhead Shrike both patiently waiting in this dead tree. After about 15 minutes, the rain stopped and the Loggerhead flew away. (Photo by
