Hi Steven,

Welcome to your and your wife to the hiking community. You may want to Google "hiking groups in Rockwall, Texas" or something to that effect to see if there are any groups in the DFW area.

As far as tips and suggestions go, there are plenty of free resources available online and at your public library. Here is just one example. You'll find the hiking community always very helpful to people of all experience levels.
