Thanks to jimmy peace for the heads up on this story. According to Four Points News, the organization responsible for the upkeep of the popular River Place Nature Trail, one of the highest rated trails in the Austin area, will start charging non-residents a fee to access the trail on March 2. The expected fee is $10 per person and animal with children under admitted 12 free. Individuals with credit card readers will be stationed at trailheads to collect the fee. This might occur only on weekends depending upon traffic and income. Only residents of River Place’s Limited District, and not all River Place residents as a whole, will be admitted without cost. This is not the first time River Place Nature Trail has been in the news. We have an article with a timeline of events that included issues with federal law requiring the trail's closure and eventually a slight reorientation of a segment of the trail. Insert toll collector here. |
