Really Nice Beach Hike
By Racer on 3/1/2008

Distance: 4.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Great little excursion.  Enjoyed the flat sandy trails on the Bay side of the park.  Got there about two hours before sunset.  Walked the trails, and stood on the observation tower.  Views were nice, although you could see the observation tower from most of the trails (observation tower is about 100 ft from parking areas) so there was not much chance of getting lost. Did not get to walk the beach on this visit.  Will definitely go back someday to finish.

Beach & Bay Trail Hiking

This park is split into two sections -- a beach area and a bay area.

The beach is nice to walk along.  There are lots of seagulls and seashells.  I also saw a blue crab, although he was dead.  Walking along the beach is very calming due to the sound of the water, although the water is not very clear or appealing in my opinion.  It is brown and muddy compared to other parts of the Gulf.

The bay side is not as nice in my opinion.  There are a lot of fishing birds that live in this part of the park, but nothing to get excited about.  The trails were muddy and poorly marked.  The park is small so it's hard to get lost,  but the signage could be better along the trails.

This hike was a beach!

Sand dunes sea birds and critters. Saw Quite a few Brown pelicans flying to the west. Never have seen more than a couple before this. Hiked this late in the evening, got back at sunset.
