Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site

This is a very small park (historic site) with a few hiking trails.  The State has done an excellent job putting up informative signage that gives a historical account of the area.

You can see a replica of the building in which the Declaration Of Independence was signed.  You can also walk along a very pretty pond and the Brazos River.

Must sees are the Visitors Center, which has a small museum which details the history of the Republic Of Texas before it joined the United States Of America as the 28th state.  A larger, more comprehensive museum (Star of the Republic Museum) is also on-site, but the admission to this museum is extra.  It is owned and operated by a private organization and Blinn College.  This 2 floor museum will give you a much better visual idea of what life was like when Texas was born.
