The Upper a Burro Mesa Pouroff was a more interesting and challenging hike...

Lots of solitude and easy to get to the trail.  No cover from the heat or the sun.  Rock formations were kind of interesting and you can see some old lava flows from a volcano long gone.  Easy trail with little to no inclines.  Make sure you take a lot of water if the temperature is high.

Enjoyed this hike early in the a.m.  Lot's of neat geological formations.  The Rock Ren's singing echo'd off the canyon walls,  Pretty awsome pour-off at the end of the trail, & snapped some good pictures.

Short And Easy Hike Into A Beautiful Canyon

As the other reviewers have pointed out, this is a short and easy hike that leads you into a canyon where Burro Mesa pours water off a short cliff when it is the wet season.

The hike is mostly through a gravel wash, which makes it challenging to get traction.  The rock formations are very attractive also.  When I did this hike, the canyon was completely dry.

As a side trip, there is another adjacent canyon next to Burro Mesa Pouroff.  It is "off trail", but it offers another nice canyon and some large boulders.

If you pass the sign for this check it out, it won't take you very long. Cool little hike down to pour off- really something to see. Little to no shade.

Very easy hike. If you climb up the pouroff be careful, because it is pretty hard to get down.
short walk to pour off in box canyon

This is a very short walk into a box canyon which gets the pouroff from a large area through a slot above much like the Window. A much more interesting and challenging alternative for the Texas hiker is hiking to the top of Burro Mesa Pour off. This is aa 3.5 to 4 mile round trip through a vally into a narrow canyon for about 3/4 mile which requires some scrambling and boulder hopping. This canyon leads to a confluence with a wide wash which ultimately takes you into an ever narrowing canyon with steep walls that ends with the slot that pours off. Intersting and fun hike.

This is a very short and relatively level hike to the bottom of the Burro Mesa Pour-off.  The pour off has created a vertical channel in the side of the mesa and is an interesting feature to go see.
