It was a fun hike, this was my 3 year old daughters first hike. She had a lot of fun but we only hiked 3 miles but cause she got tired and had to ride piggy back. But all in all we had fun and the view of the water was nice.

This was a nice hike. Scenic for the most part - Some high grass, but not bad at all. Very enjoyable. Do watch out for chiggers.
Very first overnight ever!

This is a nine-mile trail, sometimes near roads, often not. It hugs the edge of Lake Lavon and has some really beautiful views. Horses frequent the trail and it forks off in different directions at points. Watch your step--the earth beneath your feet has caved in in places, though I didn't find spots deeper than a foot.

This trail is great for practicing for those long hikes. It's very hot in the summer, and the lake is very low right now so it's not very scenic for a lake. It was a fun hike once after a big ran(the ground is clay). Give it a try it's the best in the Dallas area for training long distance hikes.
Good Hike!

I'm a long distance trail walker (I also racewalk in road races) so I was visiting Trinity Trails for trail training. It was a pretty good place to train. It's not a difficult trail (gentle rolling hills, no rocks, not twisty or rooty) but the ground itself is pretty uneven so you still have to watch your footing. I did a 5 mile out-and-back from East Fork to Collin and back to EF. I didn't see a soul until the last mile when I saw four horseback riders and then one hiker. It took me two hours to walk the ten miles. I definitely recommend it.
Oh, the MapPoint maps has an error. The East Fork trailhead is just to the West of the park entrance, not the East. It is a an area enclosed with a white metal fence and a horse ring in the middle. When you walk through the gate, the trail is immediately to your left (it runs along the road for a while) not straight ahead toward the lake (there is a small burgeoning trail here that is misleading; it only goes about 75 feet).

I hiked from Brockdale Park in Lucas to Collin Park in St. Paul and back again, a trip of roughly nine miles.
This trail is a horse and hike trail which runs adjacent to Lake Lavon. Although the trail is largely open-air, it runs through some lightly wooded areas.
At each end of the hike, one may encounter horse riders.
The "middle" of the hike is quite remote.
I hike this trail quite often. It is a great locale for butterfly watching, with Summer giant swallowtail of enormous size a real treat. I have also sighted numerous herons, hawks, and rabbits along this trail, as well as some green snakes and woodpeckers.
The trail is not strenuous at all, running along very gentle slopes on a well-marked "no vehicles" roadway.
The trailhead is extremely easy to find, a well-marked area with parking adjacent to Brockdale Park just off Lucas Road, a bit east of Allen. One takes the Bethany Road exit off Highway 75, follows it until it forks onto Lucas Road, and then turns right at the Trinity Trail trailhead about two miles from the Brockdale Park turn.
During my September hike, I saw many late Summer flowers in bloom. During the Spring, traditional Texas flowers appear.
This hike is a great resource for Collin County, and yet is largely undiscovered.

Woke up bright and early to beat the heat this fine Sunday. Struck out on this trail on my own(had someone pick me up at the end of the trail). A very quiet trail this particular day...only ran into one other couple who were on horseback. Great views of Lake Lavon...a mild, mostly flat trail, but it's a hard trail in terms of that it's hard on your feet. The trail runs along 3 separate parks along the west bank of the lake...these are also your only good places to stop for a break, too...not a lot of good stopping places. BUT...if you can whip out the first 5 miles from Brockdale to Collin Park, you can stop at Collin and walk to some picnic benches nearby to rest, eat, watch the boats in the marina...and build up enough strength the finish the last part of the trail. I recommend this trail and plan to do it again in the near future...really felt like I was out in the country, even though I was mere minutes from the big city.
