While hiking and backpacking are my favorite activities, I also love caves and spelunking.

I stopped by Alabaster Caverns State Park on my way back from my Colorado Trip since I was in the area.  The cave tour was informative and educational.  The cave itself does not have the same type of stalagtite/stalagmite formations as the Texas caves I have visited because this cave is made of alabaster rock, which is a rare form of gypsum.  Instead, alabaster crystals and veins are on full display.

If you are looking for a traditional cave with the typical stalagtites and stalagmites, then you are likely to be disappointed with this cave.  However, if you appreciate diversity in caves, then you may be intrigued by this unusual cave.

In addition to the cave tour, you can hike around on the surface outside of the cave to see the geography of the area and to better understand how the caves were formed.
