The Lava Falls Trail at El Malpais National Monument is aptly named. You walk on and through a lava field. You get the feeling you are on a different planet. The trail is marked with tal rock cairns, but they're made out of the same volcanic rock so they can be hard to see. Although the trail isn't very long, I still recommend taking a printed trail map to help you navigate. Be careful while walking this trail as there are a lot of places to trip, slip, fall or twist an ankle. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes!
