We started out on a Wednesday night and hiked the loop trail by moonlight into the Walnut Springs primative camping area to set up camp. After getting set up, we went to the scenic overlook (incredible by moonlight) then near the Moss Lake camping area. An injury forced us back to camp. The next morning we followed some of the Echo Canyon Trail, more of the Loop Trail and parts of the Turkey Pass Trail. We were pleasantly surprised that Moss Lake actually had water and not surprised that the frog pond was completely dry. We would have liked to explore more, but time kept us from staying any longer. A beautiful hike and a great workout.

We hiked the Maple trail a while back and didn't see anyone else in the park. It was after work one evening and it was wonderful. We couldn't wait for the leaves to change to come back and hike the east trail. If you're going for a good work out, hike the entire East Trail. It's a great hike. If you're going to see the maples but don't want a strenuous hike, go about 1/2 mile up either side of the trail. The middle of the trail requires a great deal more effort and the views aren't nearly as pretty as the beginning and end. There are a few really nice views when you're up high, but they really aren't that great. We went on a Saturday when the leaves were beautiful, so there was a line 1 1/2 miles long to get into the park. It was pretty full, but everyone was really nice. I gave solitude a 3 to average out the absolute solitude of our first visit and the absolute lack of solitude from the second visit.
Nice hike, great solitude

As we were finishing the trail, we saw two other people. It was a nice hike, but there was little shade. We went on a hot day in the middle of the day, but it was worth it. Swimming at the beginning at end was great.
A very pretty hike, even good on a hot day.

This was a beautiful hike. We went to the lower McKinney falls and walked down the creek along an unofficial trail for a bit. On the side trail we didn't see anyone. Solitude was good overall for a Saturday. A few people passed us. The falls was a bit crowded, but it's spread out enough that it wasn't bad. It was pretty warm when we went, but the trees kept it comfortable. It would be nice to go in the water along the hike, but the bacteria levels were too high and it was closed to swimming when we were there. Our youngest, 6, was tired by the end, but made it with no problems and had fun. This is a great family hike. We went to the upper falls after the hike. There's a great swimming hole if it's open.
