Return to San Angelo State Park

Moonset in the Morning
A clear early morning with some color as the Sun rose behind me. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A Big Buck
I was surprised I got relatively close to him as he looked for food. Once he saw me, he quickly departed. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Ham on the Trotter
Didn't notice him until I went through my photos of the rock that was dry due to the ongoing drought. Feral hogs are destructive and not wanted at the park. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Not Much Going On
The medical helicopter flying overhead was the only thing of interest I saw while hiking today. (Photo by MikeHikes)
San Angelo SP Sunrise
Not much to see at the park except for the colorful sunrise. (Photo by MikeHikes)
FINALLY Have Some Water in the River!
This is the view from the River Bend Campground looking at a portion of the North Concho River. A few weeks ago, this was completely dry but last weeks rain shower helped quite a bit. Still need FEET of rain to eradicate the drought. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Porcupine at the Watering Hole
Been a few years since I last saw a porcupine at the park and this one seemed very mobile. I watched him go from one side of the watering hole to the other before he disappeared in the woods. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A very small Ring Collared Snake
This guy was between 5-6 inches long and slithered rather quickly off the trail as I photographed him. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Sunrise at Burkett Park
No good photos of today's hike except right at the beginning when the Sun rose. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A Small Horned Lizard
Otherwise known as a Horny Toad. Was sitting along the side of the Horny Toad trail near the beginning of the hike. I haven't seen as many of these guys as in the past and attribute it to the drought and heat. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A Grasshopper's Feast
More of the prickly pear tunas have ripened or soon will. This grasshopper found one and is enjoying the fruit inside. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A New Generation
Even though drought and high temperatures prevail, the deer continue to have fawns. This is one of four I saw today as I came into the park. All four looked healthy as did their mothers. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A "Blue Moon"
This is the August "Blue Moon" or so I am told. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A Juvenile Beaver
There was an adult also swimming in the area but this juvenile moved closer and the mother stayed away. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Small splash of color
The prickly pear tunas and a few wildflowers provide some color in contrast to the browns and greens of the vegetation. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Another West Texas Sunrise
The beginning of another day in San Angelo! (Photo by MikeHikes)
Sunflowers and Bugs
The sunflowers are scattered at various places in the park. The bugs certainly enjoy visiting them. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Death and Life
The grasshopper died so that the spider could live - just the way it is. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Where's the Breeze?
Sitting in the warm grass, this Horned Toad was trying to stay cool. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Ready For Action!
This hawk appears to be ready for action - whether hunting for prey or fighting to defend his turf. (Photo by MikeHikes)
A Misty, Humid Morning
Not fog but humid air! Today was a very humid one with little to no breeze. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Chow Time
I saw this doe having breakfast as I drove to the Playground parking area. Other deer were on the opposite side of the road so she had all these flowers to herself. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Another Horned Toad
Seeing them again and they are always a welcome sight. (Photo by MikeHikes)
Storm Coming Ya Better Hide
Looks nice but the storm clouds gathered quickly and dropped a lot of rain in a short period of time. (Photo by MikeHikes)
