Return to San Angelo State Park
Not much to photograph on this hike but the Moon looked pretty nice! (Photo by

This is the third time I've seen a large group of Robins in the park this Winter. There used to be a year round colony near Bell's Trailhead but they disappeared years ago - perhaps this group is their descendants and they have returned. (Photo by

The only deer I saw on today's hike. Scheduled hunt starting in a few weeks - I hope he finds sanctuary in the southern portion of the park! (Photo by

Saw this small family of javelinas at the beginning of the Nature Trail. Their eyesight may be poor but when the wind took our scent to them, they were off like a bullet! (Photo by

I saw this bird about six weeks ago hunting in the same area. He must have been successful because he's still here. (Photo by

One of the many Robins spotted on today's hike. They are in the city but this is the first time I've seen them in the Southern portion of the park. (Photo by

A hunt is scheduled for this coming weekend so this guy might not be around too much longer. I wish him the best of luck in avoiding the hunters. (Photo by

Some of the mesquite tree leaves are turning yellow but it was a surprise to see this tree and some other vegetation with yellow leaves. (Photo by

Haven't spotted any Kingfishers in quite awhile so seeing him was a pleasant surprise. (Photo by

Meadowlarks are Winter Visitors at the park and I like seeing the colorful birds. (Photo by

I didn't notice the missing leg until I looked at the photo. Nonetheless, he seemed to be moving pretty well using the other five legs. (Photo by

I expected to see clusters of Monarchs but only saw these two. SAD! (Photo by

Not the sharpest photo but the best I could get while looking up as these two Red Tail Hawks dueled above me. One flew off, the victor stayed in place. (Photo by

Don't know why but this fence post caught my eye. (Photo by

This juvenile Mockingbird landed on a branch about 10 feet in front of me and checked me out. After I took his photo, his curiosity was satisfied and he departed. (Photo by

I don't know what these are but they looked nice with the morning Sun back lighting them to show the petal's veins. (Photo by

A very tiny ring collared snake was on the trail and was very actively attempting to get away from us. (Photo by

Perched near the watering hole, the owls looked for prey. They were unsuccessful in their quest, at least while I was there. (Photo by

Not much to photograph this morning except for the colorful West Texas sunrise. (Photo by

I saw these birds in the past but this is the first one I've seen in quite awhile. It appears to be a juvenile due to size and a few pin feathers that were visible. (Photo by

At the entrance of Burkett Park, this Jack Rabbit stood still long enough for me to get this photo. (Photo by

Haven't seen one this close for quite some time. Beautiful bird! (Photo by

In a couple of million years, this mesquite resin will turn into amber and be worth a few dollars. (Photo by
