Big Bend - Burro Mesa Pouroff - 3/25/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4point5stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour

Lots of solitude and easy to get to the trail.  No cover from the heat or the sun.  Rock formations were kind of interesting and you can see some old lava flows from a volcano long gone.  Easy trail with little to no inclines.  Make sure you take a lot of water if the temperature is high.

Big Bend - Lost Mine Trail - 3/25/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 5stars Difficulty: 4point5stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 4.50 Miles Duration: 4 hours, 30 minutes

This is a trail near the lodge at the top of the Chisos Mountains.  This trail offers beautiful views of the Chisos Mountains and the Basin.  Make sure you take plenty of water as this trail can be difficult, mainly because of the incline; however, the view at the top of the trail is a must see.  Deer often are seen in the tree lines and of course there are signs to watch out for mountain lions and black bears.  You are in the mountains remember!  I actually prefer this trail over the Window trail because of the views.  If you time the hike just right in the spring, you will see lots of cacti blooming magnificent colors - deep reds, purple, orange and yellow blooms.

Big Bend - Santa Elena Canyon - 3/23/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 5stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 1.70 Miles Duration: N/A

Santa Elena Canyon is one of my favorite places to visit.  The trail is extemely easy to navigate and the rock walls are beautiful, raising as high as 1500 feet on each side.  It has changed a bit since the flood and you can't go as far in the canyon on foot because huge boulders block the path now.

Big Bend - The Window - 3/22/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 5stars Difficulty: 4stars Solitude: 4stars
Distance: 4.00 Miles Duration: N/A

The hike "down" to the window is not bad at all.  The view from the window is absolutely beautiful.  The hike back up the trail can be difficult as you are going up the entire way of the trail.  Make sure that you take plenty of water - I always fill up my camel pak when I go.  There a lots of rock formations in the Chisos Mountains and the trees/plants are usually nice and green because of the elevation.
